Stereocidaris granularis Mortensen

Family: Cidaridae

Order: Cidaroida

Locality: Philippines, Balicasag Island, with tangle nets, 250-350 m, April 2004

Dimensions: 56 Ø x 36 mm

I got this specimen as Stereocidaris grandis rubra, but this is surely a wrong taxon. When reading Mortensen, A Monograph of the Echinoidea, I., Cidaroidea, 1928, page 242 ff., one remarks, that Mortensen introduced rubra as a variation of Stereocidaris granularis and not of Stereocidaris grandis. Beside that rubra should have a red test and red spines. Thus I think, that it is Stereocidaris granularis. But as Mortensen mentioned 16 different species and some variations of the genus Stereocidaris, it is easily possible, that the genus has been re-examined in the meantime. Does anyone know more details?
