Stereocidaris granularis Mortensen 1928

Family: Cidaridae

Order: Cidaroida

Locality: Philippines, Siquijor, 250-300 feet, 2006

Dimensions: 54 mm Ø (test)
longest spine 84 mm

Some primary spines have a small, oblique widening at their distal end, the oblique widening downwards directed. The general colour is creamish-yellowish with an apical system with a red-rosy tint, which colour continues at least over the upper interambulacras. A small purplish ring on the primary spines between the neck and the collar is sometimes visible. The specimen seems to correspond well with the description given by Mortensen for Stereocidaris granularis (A Monograph of the Echinoidea, I, Cidaroidea, 1928, page 242 ff).
